About this course

Our newly-introduced online CELTA course provides you with the benefits of both online learning and face-to-face practice. The course content has been prepared by Cambridge Assessment English which ensures standardisation regardless of where you are located.

We have designed a unique course content to be interactive and collaborative, so even though you will spend a lot of time online, you will not be working alone. Through Online CELTA, you will get the chance to contribute to discussion forum tasks with your peers on the course and with your experienced tutors.

The online input gives you complete flexibility and choice of when you would like to do the input, and perfectly suits your learning preferences. You will also have access to the online portal for 12 months from the day you start the course.

Most of the input will be done online; You will take part in an online class with your peers and with your Online Course Tutor (OCT) at regular intervals throughout the course, usually once a fortnight in the evening. Through these sessions, your tutor will provide you with tailored input depending on the needs of the group.

Along with online input, the Teaching face-to-face Practice will be scheduled to take place in 2 blocks over the 13 weeks of the course. The 3 hours of live observation of experienced teachers can be scheduled at any of our British Council centres in Cairo, which gives you the ability to attend at the centre that is closest to you.

How to apply?

You must:

  • be at least 20 years old when the course begins
  • have a competence in written and spoken English – the University of Cambridge defines this as a good C1 level on the Common European Framework. Check here for more information on the CEF
  • have a standard of education that allows entry to higher education in your country.

Acceptance is not automatic. You’ll need to submit an application form and complete the pre-interview task.

If these are up to the required standard, you’ll then be invited to an interview with us.

If you’re living in Egypt, your interview will be held at our Agouza offices. If you don’t live in Egypt, we can arrange a phone interview.

Places on the courses are limited and demand is high so apply as soon as you can.

Download and complete the following two documents:

  • Application form
  • Pre-interview task

Completed forms and tasks should be returned by email to cairo.celta@britishcouncil.org.eg

We advise that you apply at least two months in advance. We aim to process applications within four weeks of receipt.
