Application of Refund Policy 

This policy applies to all teaching centre students and examinations candidates whether individually registered or sponsored by an organisation. The policy explains the conditions under which students and exams candidates can request a credit or refund for course and exams fees.

Please use the credit and refund form available at the reception for all credit and refund requests. All requests must be signed, dated and returned to the Customer Service team.

Requests that do not comply with the conditions below will be rejected.

English Language Courses Policy

Credits can only be issued if:

  • The customer can provide evidence of a reasonable cause for cancellation before the beginning of a course 
  • Before term starts if you take a credit there will be no deduction of an administration fee.
  • After term starts there is no credit except in exceptional cases.

Credits are valid:

  • For use in another session within a six-month period.  After this period the credit expires.
  • If the credit note is not used no refund will be paid. 
  • Credits are transferable with family members
  • If a credit note is used for a full course fee and the course fee has increased, the teaching centre student will be expected to pay the difference.  

Refunds are given in the following circumstances:

  • If the British Council cancels a class.
  • Individual refunds are possible only before term starts; an admin fee of LE220 is applicable.
  • All refunds will ONLY be paid through bank transfer within 3-5 weeks.
  • If you are eligible for a refund, please complete a request form at the Customer Services desk. The British Council will not be able to issue any refunds unless customers provide their correct bank account details.

After term has begun there is no refund except in exceptional cases. Any requests for refunds or credits will be treated case by case and at the discretion of the Teaching Centre Manager.

In all cases, requests should be submitted in writing with supporting documentation from e.g. the doctor, the employer etc, on headed notepaper. An administrative fee of LE220 from the full course fee will be deducted and pro-rata refunds or credits according to the percentage of the lessons remaining when the request for the refund/credit was made. 

Exemptions from this policy are:

  • Serious illness (e.g. hospital admission or serious injury) 
  • Loss or bereavement - a close family member.
  • Hardship, trauma – e.g. Victim of crime, traffic accident etc.
  • Military service - original supporting documents should be submitted .

Placement test fees are non refundable

  • Placement test fees are non refundable.

IELTS Policy 

  • You may Transfer to another available test date or Cancel your test if you inform us at least five weeks before the test date. 

   - Transfer:  administration fee of LE100. This may only be done once.
   - Cancellation:  refund less administration fee of LE100. 

   No refunds will be allowed for IELTS within five weeks of the test date. Exemptions from this policy are:

   - Serious illness (e.g. hospital admission or serious injury) 
   - Loss or bereavement - a close family member 
   - Hardship, trauma – e.g. Victim of crime, traffic accident etc. 
   - Military service 

   In the above cases a refund, less LE100 administrative fees, will be granted.

  • IELTS Information session fee is not refundable, one transfer to a new date will be allowed. 
  • Remarking fee (Enquiry on Results): full refund if the mark improves and no refund if the mark remains the same. 

Other examinations 

  • A 100% refund or a place on the next scheduled test will be given if the British Council has to cancel or postpone an examination for any reason. 
  • If an examinations candidate gives written notice of withdrawal before the final registration date of the exam, as published by the British Council, a full refund will be given, less an administrative fee of LE100. 
  • If notice is given less than one full week before the scheduled date of the exam no refund will be given. An exception to this rule is a withdrawal or absence on medical grounds. Candidates able to produce a medical certificate will receive a refund less LE100 administrative fee. 
  • School exams remarking fees will be refunded less LE50. 

Procedure 

  • British Council refunds will only be paid by Bank Transfer (no cash and no cheques) – British Council will not issue any refunds unless customers provide their correct Bank account details attached with the refund claim form. 
  • Teaching centre students and examinations candidates must complete the official British Council refund claim form and hand it to Customer Services Staff with a copy of the original receipt.
