Rebecca Young

Teacher of English on the Teacher Support Programme

How long have you been at the British Council?

I have been at the British Council for nearly two months

Why did you join?

I applied for the post of teacher on the TSP (Teacher Support Programme) offered by the British Council as it is a unique and exciting career opportunity for someone like myself with no previous teaching experience.

My life

If I had a lot of money, I would...

travel the world and start up an animal charity!

The book or film that has influenced me most is...

Shawshank Redemption.

My most treasured possession is...

my diary.

The strangest experience I have ever had was…

seeing someone on holiday that looked exactly like me.

A proverb I particularly like is…

‘the most important conversation you will ever have is the one you have with yourself’.

The best thing about my role is…

the students I teach.  I bounce off their energy and enthusiasm!

My first impression of Cairo is…

that it is full of history, culture and welcoming people; noisy, chaotic and crazy (in a good way!)

My favourite city at the moment is…

…New York (it changes every year!).  My favourite town is Brighton on the south coast of England.

Three things I would take to a desert island are…

my friends, family and sun lotion!

The route to happiness is…

being happy with yourself first.

The one gadget I can’t live without is…

my camera.

My favourite cuisine is…

Italian.  I couldn’t live without pasta!

Something I hope to do in the next year is…

sign up to another marathon.

The best piece of advice anyone has ever given me is…

to always treat people as you wish to be treated.
