Mohamed Kamal

University of Leeds

Mohamed is a Public Health Engineer with over 5 years of expertise in environmental management, waste management, plastic pollution, and climate consulting. His experience spans projects conducted across the MENA region and Africa. He is the Director of the Greenish Foundation, a prominent non-profit organization dedicated to addressing Egypt's pressing climate and environmental issues through education, research, and advocacy. Mohamed holds a Master’s degree in water, sanitation and health engineering from the University of Leeds.

Norhan El Sakkout

University of London

Norhan is the Founder and Creative Director of the slow fashion brand Saqhoute. Coming from a family of architects, creatives and academics in Arabic and Islamic Architecture and Literature, made celebrating Egyptian culture and heritage part of her identity. Norhan’s master’s degree from the University of London was instrumental in helping her build Saqhoute. During her time in London, she worked with the renowned brand Ashley Isham in London Fashion Week, a unique opportunity to access the London fashion scene. Norhan is applying what she learned to her work alongside several initiatives to grow the sustainable fashion sector through education, collaboration and developing Egyptian handicrafts.

Sabrine Assem

University of Warwick

Sabrine Assem is the Founder and CEO of Untap, an innovation and talent discovery platform provider that empowers organizations to leverage open innovation and tap into a network of talented individuals for creative solutions. Untap assists in planning, launching, and managing various initiatives like hackathons, innovation challenges, and startup programs. Untap has served over 80 organizations supporting over 200,000 participants from over 160+ countries.

Sabrine previously worked as an entrepreneurship consultant at the German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce. She founded SolverMine, an open innovation platform fostering crowd-sourced solutions for organizational challenges.

Sherif Selim

Durham University

Sherif leads multimillion-dollar community development programs across three countries as the Head of Communications and External Affairs for North Africa at BP. He collaborates with local governments, NGOs, and civil society to design and implement initiatives that foster the development of local communities. Through these programs, Sherif created thousands of jobs, improved infrastructure, and healthcare services, alongside establishing a microfinance fund that empowered over 10,000 individuals, primarily women.

Sherif is a group subject matter expert on social tension and a core member of BP’s modern slavery community of practice. He is also the Executive Sponsor of the BP Women International Network in North Africa. 

 

 

Yehia El Refaiy

Study UK Marketing Manager, the British Council, Egypt, British Council, Egypt

Yehia has 10+ years of experience in international education at Egypt’s top educational institutions namely the British University in Egypt, and the American University in Cairo. Yehia is an MBA candidate at the Edinburgh Business School, he also completed various post graduate studies in International Marketing at the Ecole Supérieure Libre des Sciences Commerciales Appliquées in Paris, he also studied Digital Marketing and Project Management.

Mahmoud El Sakka

Head of Investment Banking and Corporate Finance at Arab African International Bank , Judge for the Entrepreneurial category

Mahmoud has 30 years of experience in finance, investment and banking. He is member of the Top Management Committee, and the Executive Committee and the Asset Liability Management Committee at AAIB. He is also the Director at Arab African Investment Management Limited. Mahmoud chairs the Association of Graduates & Trainees from Britain in Egypt (AGTBE). He holds his Master of Arts in Banking and Finance from the University of Wales, he also holds MPA from the American University in Cairo. 

 

Ms. Reem Maged

Reem Maged graduated from Cairo University, Faculty of Mass Communication. She started her broadcasting career with Nile TV - Nile International Channel - where she worked for 12 years. She worked there first as an assistant director, next as a director, then as a correspondent, later as a producer and editor-in-chief and finally as program and news anchor. She has also directed a series of documentaries for Al Jazeera Children's Channel. After that, Ms. Maged hosted EL A’ALAM FE SA’AA and BEL MASRY EL FASEEH on ONTV and co-hosted, alongside Ibrahim Issa, BALADNA program. Currently she is presenting BALADNA BEL MASRY on ONTV channel. 

Selecting professional development content

In this session, participants explored the Professional Practice Pathway (PPP)s and how they are structured. From personalisation to accommodating different levels of expertise, they identified the key features of good content for CoP meetings and how to select the content confidently.

They further consolidated their understanding of the facilitator’s role when it comes to selecting content and learned how the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) framework can help set goals for themselves and for teachers and how they can best support those teachers. Finally, they examined how to run a CoP meeting and move participants through various content.

Professor Ahmed Elseragy

Dean of the Faculty of Art and Design, The British University in Egypt

Professor Ahmed Elseragy is the Dean of the Faculty of Art and Design and Associate Vice-Chancellor for Education Quality and Employability at The British University in Egypt.

He has over 25 years of experience in the higher education sector, academic leadership and professional background both in the UK and the Middle East. Professor Elseragy holds a Ph.D. degree in Built Environment from University of Nottingham and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). Ahmed is also an Internationalisation consultant for Advance HE (previously known as the Higher Education Academy in the UK)

He held various senior management roles including Head of School of Engineering at the University of Lincoln in the UK between 2021-2022. As Director of Enterprise at the University of Lincoln, Ahmed developed a sustainable relationship between enterprise and industry. He engaged with a large network of industry and manufacturing partners to support the manufacturing and engineering sector in Greater Lincolnshire.

Encouraging application of learning

To what extent should we feel responsible for the success of CoPs? 
In this session, participants explore the need and tools for measuring the success of a CoP. They identified different types of data, quantitative and qualitative, so that they can better consider and suggest a suitable evaluation approach to assessing their CoP value (example: methodological triangulation approach). They were also introduced to the Wegner et al’s framework and its five-value creation matrix for assessing CoP value.
